  • 1 cup basmati rice (or long-grain rice)
  • 2 cups water or vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh coriander for garnish
Preparation of the recipe

Prepare the Rice: Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch.

Cook the Onion and Garlic: In a saucepan, heat the olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add the onion and sauté until golden, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for another minute.

Add the Turmeric: Stir in the ground turmeric and cook for 1 minute to release its aroma.

Cook the Rice: Add the rinsed rice to the saucepan, then add the water or broth. Season with salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed.

Finishing Touch: Remove from heat and let sit, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot, garnished with fresh coriander if desired.
